LIGN210 - Phonetics
Fall Quarter 2004
Instructor: Amalia

This
course is a short, graduate-level introduction to phonetics. It is divided into
three main parts: articulation, acoustics, and speech perception. Due to the
shortness of this quarter and the unusually large size of the class, the course
will be based on lectures that will present an overview of major topics in
articulatory, acoustic and auditory phonetics (though an extra session can be
arranged for short class project presentations in week 10). You are expected to
skim the material assigned for each class, before
that class; this should make following the lectures easier. You are expected to
read the materials more carefully after each lecture and to have questions
prepared for the following class; the first 15-20 minutes of each lecture will
be devoted to questions you may have on material that has already been
covered.
