Welcome to UCSD’s Phonetics Lab! We are located in 4432 AP&M. The focus of the laboratory is to study sound articulation, acoustics, perception, and patterning in adults. The lab is currently equipped with a sound booth for high-quality audio recordings, electroglottography for measuring indirect vocal fold contact, as well as a system for measuring airflow and air pressure.
October 2016 Marc Garellek and Amanda Ritchart were recently published in Journal of Phonetics. Their paper (with Jianjing Kuang of UPenn) looks at the role of voice quality in the production of nasal consonants and vowels in three Yi languages.
July 2016 Amanda Ritchart received an NSF Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grant (Co-PI Marc Garellek) to study the production and perception of nasality in Brazilian Portuguese and American English. Congrats Amanda!
