Student Comments

--UCSD is lucky to have Professor Schane, as he is very knowledgeable in the intersecting fields of law and language, and can break down the material so that it is easy to understand for students.

--His lectures are very straightforward and he likes discussions and volunteers to answer questions. He likes participation and really wants to make sure everyone understands the material, which isn't at all difficult but if you don't do the readings, it hurts you and the progression of the class. I would take Professor Schane again if he were teaching another class in either law or language. He really knows the course material.

--The class is set up in a very organized and clear way. He seems like a nice guy and a fair grader. He gives out a very clear syllabus and class schedule that he basically followed the entire course.

--Professor Schane made the content of this course more intellectually stimulating than it would have been on its own. He's very good--he seems to care about the students and responds well to questions or concerns. He's a very engaging lecturer, and involves the class instead of talking at us. He clearly knows a great deal about this topic and is good at making it interesting and accessible.

--He is a professional, veteran, experienced speaker and instructor. His lectures were always easy to comprehend and he did a good job holding our attention. I found him very helpful in answering any questions as well.

--Enthusiastic, clear, and excellent professor. He knows his content well and engages the class frequently.

--Good professor, brings an inviting atmosphere to class and knows how to present the material in an accessible manner.

--It was interesting, but also had a lot of hard concepts. Weekly assignments helpful, it would be even more helpful if the homework was went (sic) over in more detail.

--The course is perfect for linguistics students interested in law school, as many of them are, and even for nonlinguistics students interested in this particular aspect of law. Learned a lot of things I don't think you would normally learn from; definitely take this course!

--I would recommend anyone to take law and language because it's not a difficult course but you do learn a lot about both the law and language, and language of the law. Professor Schane really helped you learn the material so you really understand cases that have come about or revisions of the law that were made in accordance to our changing world and our use of language.
