Overview

SLab is dedicated to research and graduate student training in speech acoustics, processing and articulation.

Currently, our two largest research projects are cross-linguistics studies of rhythm and intonation. Our research also covers other aspects of prosody and also language variation: e.g. graduate students Nadav Sofer and Page Piccinini are currently working on the phonetics of Hebrew stress and code-switching respectively.

In general, research questions in the Speech Lab are addressed combining insights from the traditional fields of phonetics and phonology but without strictly adhering to these traditional divisions. Prosody and language variation also inform our research.
