Welcome to the Lab
Welcome to the Mayberry Lab for Comparative Language Acquisition at UCSD. We are post-graduate and post-doctoral researchers who study language and its development. We compare and contrast language acquisition, and psycholinguistic and neural processing across sensory-motor modalities (signed and spoken languages, reading, and gesture), across developmental time frames (first- and second-language acquisition begun in infancy versus older ages). Using diverse experimental paradigms and populations, we seek to understand how comprehension develops within the individual in relation to his or her linguistic circumstances. In lab meetings we discuss ongoing research projects. Our lab meetings are open to interested individuals, but the schedule changes from quarter to quarter, and the topic changes weekly, so check back if you're interested.
