ALL SECTIONS ARE IN HSS 2154. HSS is in Muir College. From York, go past the Main Gym,and it's on the left by the tennis courts.

 

This course provides an introduction to central issues in the basic areas of human development. The course will also explore relationships between biological, cognitive, social, and cultural aspects of human development.

 

HDP 1 is a prerequisite for the HDP major, and must be completed with a grade of C or better (C- or Pass grades are not accepted). HDP 1 is offered once a year inthe Fall quarter.

Readings: Because the course relies heavily on guest lectures from instructors that come from an unusually wide range of fields,there is no single textbook. Instead, selected readings will be assigned that are appropriate for each lecture. All required readings are available online. Links to readings will be found in the online syllabus.

 

Requirements and grading:

1.  Midterm:Tue, 10/30 12:30p-1:50p (35% of your final grade)

2.  Final: Fri,12/14 11:30am-2:29pm (40%of your final grade)

3.  Sections:attendance, participation and assignments (25% of your final grade). Section attendance is required.

Assignments: identify and briefly discuss (one paragraph each) 3 striking core issues from each lecture and its associated readings.

REVISED HOMEWORK POLICY: Assignments must be *emailed* to your TA the day AFTER EACH LECTURE.
