METHOD OF STUDY:

At the beginning of the course, listen twice to the Pronunciation to sharpen your ears to the pronunciation of Spanish. For the Useful Everyday Phrases section at the beginning of the book, and for the New Material in each Lesson, study as follows:
Listen to the entire dialogue while following the English translation in the book to tell you what the foreign sentences mean.

2.      Listen again, stopping the tape after each sentence and repeating after the speaker.  You may glance at the foreign transcription to help you with details in the pronunciation.

3.      Listen and repeat each sentence several more times.  Avoid reading the written Swedish.

4.      Read each sentence in English and try to produce the Swedish translation without looking in the book or listening to the tape.  Check yourself against the tape.

5.      Say the sentences of the dialogue along with the speaker on the tape again and again until you can produce the foreign sentences easily and quickly given only the English ones as cues.

When New Material in the book is not on the tape, study in the same way, except you can serve as your own model:  read the sentences out loud,
using the pronunciation you have learned from listening to the speaker on the tape. Read and study the Spanish Identification sections until you can understand the whole selection easily. You may want to study other sections of the text, but they are not part of the course and will not be tested.

EXAMINATION:

Supervisor says the English version of sentences chosen at random from conversations in the assigned material; the student says the Spanish equivalent.  The grade is based on both fluency and accuracy.

All exams are 30 minutes. Final is not cumulative.
